Mak One : The street walls are synonimous to canvas !

MAK ONE began his graffiti career in 1989. He grew up in Mitchells Plain an apartheid declared "Coloured area". It was here that he was influenced by the graffiti on the walls and met up with other writers such as Falco, Moe and Ice. He is one of South Africas most talented Graff artist, having done alot for the growth of the scene through the years. He is often involved in communtiy upliftment projects as he feels that graffiti can offer kids an alternative path to the paths often followed mechanically by those growing up in the ghetto areas. Having done workshops with kids as well as at juvenille prisons one can also see a social message seeping through into some of his large murals.... He focuses mostly on Stlye- with a definite preference for 3D, as well a having a diverse arrangement of characters.

When it came to handing-out artistic talent... Mak One was one of those would stood infront of the line. This guy got talent coming out of his index finger like his life depended on it or something. Everyone in the South African Graff World knows this cat... knows his style... his characters! Along with other like Gogga , Falco and a handful of others they really started graff in the ghetto's; beautifying dirty streets and adding colour to fucked-up areas of the apartheids Group Areas Act!

The street walls are synonimous to canvas! One mural is telling the story of more then a thousand words, sturring emotions, making you stop, look and wonder... "Who would take the time and effort to do something like this and for what?" Considering graff-writers are high ranked criminal offenders by Babylons soldiers and all of that. And then its also free art, not in exhibition halls of the arty farty but right smack in your face when you take a train... everywhere!
I got a question for you Makone: "Who is Nutso?"...
