Tha Hymphatic
Thabs : One of tha most versatile
 |
Born
in Maseru, in the mountaineous Lesotho Kingdom and bred
in in the J-section this cat is a force to be reckoned
with in any ones books. Probably one of the most
unique and versatile MC's on the scene today.
Thabs has single-handedly put together and released
two novel albums, Error Era (2001) and Perfect Times
(2003), and is a member of Abnormal Detail (A.N.D.).
He is also a dedicated film and drama student who loves
his art only second to air. Maybe! Both witty and very
thoughful in his way, with a touch of fuck you, Thabs
is a class act by all means. |

Comments from
Thabs's phone interview : |
"I started
out with listening to emcees, first thinking if they
freaked it "in this or that" way it would
sound sicker. So I got the idea from improving and adjusting
other styles to create my own... which with time developed
to "tha Hymphatic Thabs". I met Gini Grindeth
in my high school days and yeah we started out killing
mics then already... today we are in a crew with few
others called A.N.D.- AbNormal Details. But in fact
my first crew was Daily News with Robo. In my early
Hip Hop days, everyone in J-sek use to go this spot..."Lè
Club" for the real underground -issh, to catch
battles, see crews like "Meta-more-forces",
Database, VOS of Soweto... Influencial crews that fall
deep into the movement today are Audio-Visual, BaseMental
Platform, Ground Works... |

My
own project with the A.N.D.
is a type of Hip Hop theatre presentation using story-telling
and narration to give voice to certain characters. We
really spice shit up with costumes, skits and dialogue,
and at the 2004-Grahamstown Festival we got a dope response
from the crowd and organizers. |
My
first project Error Era was a compilation of different
producers, diverse beats and live music. At this time
I was just mad crazy hungry to eat up mics and the
whole recording of my lyrics was basically done in
2 days. It basically set the platform for the second
album, Perfect Times. Without the first album, this
last release would not have been possible. The central
ideas evolves around issues of identity, working backward
and forward...on the subconscious level! S.A underground
is developing at a accelerated rate, so are the ideas
of S.A. identity which transcending beyond language
and what you have. We gots a different way of pronounciations
and dialects that you won't get anywhere else and
its clear cats aren't trying to gimmik American styles
and whatnot. The world is a fucking global village,
so for me as an Emcee I would like to spread my eagle
wings and explore more..." |
