Basemental Platform : Street-Intellects...Serious Hip Hop

Consisting of Disloyal Member, Trevor Automatic, Cap Cynical Two, C-Daddy Dash, Erik Petkowinskyn and Non-Depiction,the crew has been busy producing and releasing product on the street since 1998. Strictly underground coffee here, cause BMP doesn't give you a second to sleep. With grungy digital break beats and far-from-simplistic rhyme sequencing, these cats are sure to be in any underground head's collection.

In their own words : "Our music is presented in a non-popular, beyond-conventional form of Hip-Hop, which surfaces from the dungeons buried deep underground in the heart and mind of the Hip-Hop-Kind spread throughout the universe in all its greatness. We crush poetic meter and cadence with broken syllables of decadent verbs that strike discords of forbidden truth and understanding. For anything less isn't worth our time."

Basemental Platform's interview :

10 Years of democracy : "Influenced the movement in terms of the access to the overseas underground community … Some cats from the States don’t even know Company Flow, while its known to cats from here. It opened up the market, making the underground more accessible to establish international links on a global scale. Don’t belief the hype too, cause cats still need to put in the extra efford…cats wont just like your sound because you are from a democratic country, you got to represent the hard-core -ish and be real about what you’re doing.
Thats the focus of BMP- to be more sincere about the time and that how we are manifesting / representing ourself … Commentating about whats going on and what we are doing. Hip Hop is an universal language / movement beyond just a local thing that is happening here in S.A. "

Basemental Platform in few dates
  • They've thus far released two full-length albums,Urban Noize(1998) and Extended Playback(2003).
  • In 2003 they had an album-launch tour, in which they performed at Sky Bar and Bart Centre (Durban)
  • Aug.2003 BMP formed their own independent entity, Silvah Needle cc., specialising in audiovisual production, particular music, through multimedia elements i.e. graphic design, IT and street gear.
The first time I saw these cats rock the mic was at the Fire on the Mountain (2002), and wow... how they killed it! Madd peepz was like "yo did you catch the BMP set..." They really was the suprise act at the Festival and totaly stole the show. Madd people have been sleeping on the S.A. underground and this was like a much needed wake-up call if you haven't been catching on to the freshest, dopest -issh! Already, just by playing there tracks over radiocampustoulouse there has been mad interest in the BMP... Street Intellects; the track that got most response is "Klapkop".
Everybody wants to know what it stand for... cause in a way through the music people can really get an idea what is going on in S.A. in terms of slang, street culture and whatnot!
