Cape Town : "Truely a memorable event"

In true spirit of the 10 year celebration of S.A. democracy and the revival of African Renaissance, this festival invites both young and old alike from all the four corners and from all the different communities to the streets of Cape Town to join in the festivities. The Cape Town Festival is celebrating its 5th anniversary and showcases the many blossoming talents that have been born out of S.A. new found freedom since 1994. Supported and endorsed by the City of Cape Town and the National Lottery Fund, the festival seeks to unite South Africans by hosting a multi-cultural festival.

I was granted the opportunity to do interviews for an independent film structure making a documentary for the Festival... and was it fun! Fun is putting it lightly cause really... having seen all the levels of the event, I got a more comprehensive perspective of what was really happening. We went to the Artscape to watch amongst others some delightful Indonesian, African and Indian dances; went to a show featuring sign-language poetry by deaf people; brushed shoulders with politicians and had the opportunity to pepper them with nagging questions; went to Bontiheuwel (a Cape Town ghetto) where a parallel event was held to link up with the CPT Festival; interviewed artist, musicians, street-workers and children to get their views on the 10 year Democracy celebrations.
Then there was the night when Long Street was blocked-off with bands, shows, carnivals, "klopse" ( Cape Town coons) and soundsystems... did I leave something out? If you ever wanted to get a sense / idea of the South African spirit, please come see for yourself!
