5th Floor is a
hip-hop outfit consisting
of twelve members and originally hail from Cape Town.
The team performs and produces hip-hop music, as well
as providing platforms for other forms of urban-art
expression within their immediate community.The crew
was assembled in 1996. The members have strong links
as childhood friends, siblings or attending school together.
5th Floor consists of Pronounce The Articulate, Snipa,
Koriander, Royal Son, Camo, Kilogram, Casual T, Pablo,
Swell, Fungus, Son of Soil and Soul Fly. |

Floor lyrics reveal
hidden meanings in everyday life while drawing on lessons
from our common ancestry. Members are from diverse backgrounds
and locations in Africa and address the current state
of affairs based on their experience.The representatives
are from Langa & Gugulethu/ Bloemfontein/ Zwelitsha
(Eastern Cape)/ Juaneng (Botswana)/ Spruitview (Gauteng). |
In
keeping with the ethics of hip-hop the 5th Floor encourage
Knowledge-Of-Self which has motivated and inspired the
crew in many ways. The relevance of such concepts are
universal and apply to underprivileged communities where
there is a large hip-hop audience and many 5th Floor
supporters. |

Over
the years 5th Floor have been
performers at live
events and club functions. Hosted by dsp(DarkerShadeofPhunk)
with DJ Hamma - we attended Boogie Down Knights and
WordLife sessions which emphasise the excitement and
relevance of wordplay in hip-hop and life. 5th Floor
appeared at the Josi vs Cape Town(Battle) at Dockside,
“Overspray “ event and appeared on the soundtrack
of this award winning Graffiti documentary. The crew
also appeared at Tedelex/Y-fm Hip Hop competition at
the JHB Zoo. (2003) |
We
have been receiving airplay from Y-fm for 4 our tracks.
One of the 4 singles (Creation) has been released on
a Harambe, African Dope compilation. |

The
5th Floor have presented workshops
at high schools such as Westerford and Langa Comprehensive
High(Cpt) to matric pupils. The most recent workshop
was at Rylands High(Cpt) as part of a youth demonstration
about peace.We have also been part of Youth Day celebrations
at the Goode Hope Centre in Cape Town in conjunction
with the Metropolitan Council. |
In
the international arena
we had collaborative performances with Ninja Tunes artists,
Jean Grey & Mr.Len of Rawkus Entertainment during
their 2000 tour to S.A. There have been individual or
crew appearances at music festivals like Tukkelpop(Belgium),
African Dancers(Germany), Splash in Fen, Oppikoppi,
Woodstock(South Africa). |

awareness and mobilise an active listening audience.
Our objective is also to enlighten listeners as this
is vital to the functioning of any form of innovative
communication. |
