The Long
Street Kids : A Streetwise Cartoon Series
 |
The Long Street Kids is an
action/ comedy/ drama series, which exposes and informs the public of
the harsh realities facing street children, but obstacles are
interpreted as adventures by these heroes. Long Street is a real street
in Cape Town, South Africa, where real kids live and sleep... in fact
it is so long that it extends all the way to Sao Palo,... Mexico
City... Bangkok, Calcutta and Montenegro. The length of this street is
unrestricted by national, cultural or racial boundaries. In order to
give an authentic account of streetchildren in a real world, The Long
Street Kids series has an added element of drama and urgency. And acts
as an spotlight highlighting the issue of street children... a problem
that have not been fully addressed. |
One of the greatest social
problems to face the 21st century has been largely overlooked.
According to Unesco, there are approxiimately 100 million children
living on the street globally. Altough... predominantly a Third World
problem; it does affect First World countries too. Children live in
extremely harsh conditions on these city streets, with our communities
and institutions largely oblivious to these concerns.. The Long Street
Kids is an effort to reverse the apathy surrounding this issue! |
|
Welcome to the world of The Long Street Kids,
where a group of 4 street children (and their mutt), spend their days
and nights on the city streets... Watch them take on thugs, gangsters,
crazy madmen, sinister characters and a whole new underworld of urban
filth. The series is definitely the voice of street children. |
By showing these kids as
real kids children who happen to be afflicted by a life on the streets,
viewers may be able to appreciate the struggle of street children. Rap
and ambient Hip Hop sounds complement the journey on to Long Street,
exposing an authentic street culture experience. This project is
closely affiliated with the team from Street Universe (www.
streetuniverse.org.za), in the purpose of assisting street children in
the Cape Town area.
